Since its inception in 1983, The Lambda Foundation, one of the oldest gay and lesbian oriented foundations in the nation, has awarded more than 750,000 to projects and programs important to Pittsburgh's GLBT community. The foundation's grants have been responsible for helping fund such notable organizations as: Persad, ACLU Pittsburgh, PATF, Bet Tikvah, CMU Out, Shepherd Wellness Community, Women's Law Project, GLCC Pittsburgh, Renaissance City Choirs, PFLAG Pittsburgh, Western PA Freedom to Marry, and a host of others. The annual ball is the primary fund-raising event for the foundation.
