We are a Charitable, non-profit organization serving
the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Our goals are to raise and
distribute funds to the benefit of this community. Funds are raised in a number
of ways:
*Through Foundation
sponsored fund raisers
*Through fund raisers
sponsored by or with other groups
*Through
individual contributions (as of 1998 a United Way Donor Option of Allegheny County
#888777)
*Through Planned giving
(wills, bequests, etc.)
*Through the interest
and gain on invested principal
Since its founding
in 1983 the Foundation has awarded nearly $750,000 in grants to various
organizations, individuals and projects that have a positive impact on our lesbian,
gay, bisexual and transgender community. The Lambda Foundation is a tax-exempt charitable
foundation (501c3 ) and contributions are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted
by federal law.
The Lambda Foundation
makes four types of grants:
*Operational Grants
to help support the general operating costs of existing organizations.
*Innovation and
Development Grants to help support new organizations or the special projects
of individuals or existing organizations.
*Pittsburgh
Tavern Guild/ Frank Borrelli AIDS Fund Grant to help support the general
operation or special projects of AIDS related groups.
*Buzz Pusateri Alpha
to Omega AIDS Fund for youth and young adults AIDS education and prevention
and the special needs of long-term survivors of HIV/AIDS.
The Lambda Foundation also supports:
The Lambda Scholarship Award
The Foundation awards
an annual scholarship of $5000 to college students at an accredited four year school,
within the Greater Pittsburgh Area who have made a positive contribution toward
the integration of L/G/B/T culture on their campus.

Crime Stoppers
In 1993 the Foundation established the Crime stoppers Program Fund. This is a special
program designed to help heighten awareness about hate crimes. The Fund provides
reward money for information that leads to the arrest of an individual who has been
involved in a hate crime against the L/G/B/T community.
